You may be able to change some money and get some Baht at home, but better to wait until you are here. In Phuket, being a tourist destination, there are currency exchange counters everywhere. You can also change cash and travelers cheques in most banks. In addition, there are plenty of ATM's so you can withdraw cash from a credit card. Your hotel will maybe change cash for you, but will not give you a good rate! Be aware that you may not be able to change damaged or torn notes. Do not ever be tempted to change money on the street.
To avoid confusion, we quote most of our web diving prices in US dollars. However, since we pay our local bills in Thai Baht, these dollar prices do sometimes fluctuate. The dollar has not been strong lately, with the current rate around 34 Baht per dollar. Other currencies such as the UK Pound (70 Baht) and the Euro (47 Baht) have gained a bit, making a diving holiday in Thailand a good option for Europeans.
