Also jokingly called the Thaitanic, the King Cruiser is the only large wreck accessible to recreational divers around Phuket. There are a couple of smaller ones, but so small they are not worth a dive, and there are some deep wrecks such as the HMS Vestal, but only possible with Trimix and full tech support. The King Cruiser sank in 1997, nobody was hurt, some reckon it was an insurance job. For years the wreck was more or less intact, but these days much of it has collapsed. It's over 30m deep, and not for new divers.
If you are lucky enough to dive King Cruiser at slack tide, it's an easy dive. But the currents can be ripping.
Big schools of snapper, small barracuda, plenty of lionfish, scorpionfish, puffers, occasional turtles, sleeping sharks under the hull, always a great dive!
