Surrounded by deep waters and colliding oceanic currents, Cocos Island is a scuba divers dream due to its populations of Hammerhead sharks, rays, dolphins and other large marine species. The extremely wet climate and oceanic character give Cocos a unique ecological character not shared with either the Galapagos or any of the other islands in this part of the world. Cocos Island was declared a Costa Rican National Park in 1978. Cocos Island National Park was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997. Very few divers get here, and spaces are extremely limited. The Wind Dancer will be starting trips in 2010 and you can expect demand to be high! |
