Groupers are also known as Cods, Rockcods, Gropers, Coral Cods, Coral Trouts, Hinds, and Sea Basses. Groupers are a very diverse group comprising over 150 species, although the number of described species is still under revision. Groupers range in size from around 20 cm to more than 250 cm. Most species of grouper can change sex from female to male and are generally considered to be long-lived, slow growing and late-maturing. Groupers are among the most important and highly valued fish throughout the tropical and subtropical regions of the world.
