Phuket Island is much larger than most people imagine. The land area is 543 square kilometers, not much smaller than Singapore. The main tourist development is on the Western beaches - Karon, Kata, Patong, Kamala, Bang Tao. Other beaches such as Naiharn, Rawai, Naithon, Nai Yang and Surin are much quieter. All over the island are hidden treasures, beautiful views and small, uncrowded beaches. You just have to go looking. Get a map of Phuket, rent a car or bike and get out and see the real Phuket.
