Phuket Weather - August 2005
Tuesday August 30th
A bright start with some dark clouds on the hills, then some heavy rain for half an hour in Karon around lunchtime. Cats and Dogs. Quite a grey day. Ain't no sunshine. We are into that time of year now, nearly September. The weather gets very mixed as the seasons start to change, a real melange of rain and sun, some days are calm, some windy. Yesterday was lovely, today is yukky! Compare to July and August which are mostly rain free and a great time to visit.
Monday August 29th
Some cloud to the North, and a quick shower in Kathu (center of the island) this morning. But here in Karon - Ay! Que lindo dia...Vamos a la playa! Here comes the sun.
Sunday August 28th
Saturday started wet, with light rain falling until late morning. Kept things cool, good for a lie in! But by early afternoon, the sky was clear, air was warm and the pool was calling. Sunday has started clear and dry with light winds.
Friday August 26th
TGIF. Another mixed bag today. Started bright, some light rain in the afternoon, mostly cloudy, mostly grey. Not windy. Tomorrow is Saturday - Wear A Smile!
Thursday August 25th
Sunshine and showers. Sunny start, rain mid morning, cloudy, bit of sun. Grab your coat and snatch your hat, leave your worries on the doorstep...just direct your feet to the sunny side of the street.
Wednesday August 24th
Today is even sunnier. Very little cloud cover, yes indeed a great day for being outside or diving...Never saw the sun shining so bright..Never saw things going so right. Nothing but blue skies...
Tuesday August 23rd
Yes, looks like we're going to have a period of changing weather. Sometimes it seems the weather is different every day. Wet - Dry - Wet - Dry. Today is brighter and quite sunny, with a light wind. Most people here are happy to see some rain, as the year has been very dry.
Monday August 22nd
Now we are getting some more typical low season weather. After so much sun, there has to be some rain! Saturday was pretty wet most of the day and night. The Lotus shopping center was crowded with locals escaping the rain. Sunday was totally opposite and we got a bit of a nice tan while doing some dive training at the pool. A warm and happy day. Today is cloudy again and we had some rain in the morning, getting quite heavy in the afternoon. Wettest day for a couple of months.
Friday August 19th
Thursday was very sunny, and the air was so clear you could see Phi Phi from the hill overlooking Chalong Bay (Phi Phi is about 45km from here). The last couple of nights have been warm and muggy, so it was no surprise that there was some rain and thunder today. Sky is cloud laden, and the rain lasted an hour, but not heavy. Wind has died down and sea looks calm.
Wednesday August 17th
The haze has gone and today is bright and sunny again. See photos below. Phuket is beautiful again! Light winds, so the sea is almost flat. Good diving weather, good holiday weather. Full Story in the Phuket Gazette.

Tuesday August 16th
Monday was hot and sunny yet again, but in the afternoon the sky got hazy. There was some rain last night, but today is still hazy, and also very warm. The haze is the result of forest fires in Sumatra, Indonesia. The smoke has caused quite a problem in parts of Indonesia and the Southernmost provinces of Thailand. We are getting a light haze here. Sunday August 14th
Saturday was very warm, and less windy. Sky was almost cloudless. Some folks are starting to worry about water. Rain is needed, regardless of ruining someone's beach holiday! There were some very dark clouds and a brief, heavy rainstorm on Saturday night, but Sunday is once again sunny.
Meanwhile there are floods in Chiang Mai - Bangkok Post report.
Friday August 12th
More of the same I'm afraid. Blue skies, light clouds, still pretty windy. In summary : quite nice really.

Thursday August 11th
Two more lovely hot sunny days. There were some dark clouds this morning, but only a few brief showers. By the afternoon, the sky was almost clear. Still windy, so the seas are not calm, but not rough either, just a bit agitated.
Tuesday August 9th
Windy and seas look a bit bouncy, but not enough to stop divers! Still no rain, skies are "partly cloudy", looked a bit dark last night but stayed dry.
Sunday August 7th
The weather in Phuket the last few days has continued nice and warm. Mostly sunny, quite windy, some dark clouds here and there. Rain on Saturday night with strong wind for about 30 minutes. Let's just say I'd rather be here than anywhere else.
Wednesday August 3rd
Tuesday started a bit wet also, but the winds had died down, and seas calm. Afternoon was warm and mostly cloudy. Today we are back to the lovely sunshine, though the waves at the beach are not so small! Just in case some nutball decides to take a swim there are lifeguards along the beach, but the red flags should be enough. See photos below. Many low season days are like this - sunny, warm, and a bit windy.

Monday August 1st
Saturday was still fine, just a little windy, but the seas were not too rough. We had plenty of divers at Racha Yai, coming back happy but windswept! Sunday was otra cosa - the first really wet day for a long time. Morning was OK, but then stormy weather came in the afternoon - strong wind and lots of rain. Today started wet also, and by mid afternoon is just grey.
