Phuket Weather - May 2005
Tuesday May 31st
Sunny over the weekend, where is the rainy season, eh? The answer came on Monday afternoon. Rain started about 3pm, and is still raining now at 10am on Tuesday. Quite heavy at times, a very cool night. Latest satellite picture shows plenty of cloud to the west. So maybe we'll have a few wet days. Ah well, we've had a couple of weeks of sun. These changes are typical of the season, always more sun than rain.
Friday May 27th
Yes, still mostly sunny. Rained on me for about 5 minutes this morning, though there seemed to be no rain clouds around. Not as sunny and hot today as recent days. Sea still calm.
Wednesday May 25th
Yesterday was sunny again. This morning a big black mass of cloud came over the hills from the west towards my house. You could hear the rain coming 5 minutes before, like an approaching train. Only lasted 15 minutes, now it's sunny again.
Monday May 23rd
The weekend was sunny, not too hot, great weather. Some clouds. A few spots of rain here and there. Very little wind, so good diving conditions. Great days for beach life. We ate lunch in Chalong by the sea again. Very relaxing, warm weather, great food.
Thursday May 19th
Again some light rain on Tuesday evening, but Wednesday was again mostly sunny with the beach looking great, and the wind has dropped. A very nice day. Today (Thursday) is also sunny with no rain. These are the kind of days you love - not too hot, the sun on your shoulders, king of the world....
Tuesday May 17th
Monday was dry here until the evening, though at my house in Kathu, it was wet much of the afternoon. Today really is much better, warm and sunny, though there is still plenty of cloud around.

Monday May 16th
Rain again on Friday night, and rain on and off during Saturday. Very localised. Ate lunch at Chalong Bay (at "Danang Seafood"). As we started eating, light rain started to fall, so we had to move from our beachfront table. Rain continued for an hour. On leaving, we drove maybe 1km and the roads were totally dry. Great lunch! Sitting by the sea, just a few customers in the restaurant, good service. Keep that prawn salad coming! Sunday was mostly dry. Today (Monday) we have sun and a few clouds. Skies were very clear last night.
Friday May 13th
Rain came back in the night, pretty heavy. Skies were heavy and grey this morning. A 30 minute downpour at lunchtime, but the wind has dropped and sea is quite calm. Sky looking brighter by the afternoon. Looking at the latest satellite picture, I reckon weather will be getting sunnier over the next few days.
Thursday May 12th
A quick shower yesterday afternoon, but a clear night. A few spots of rain in Phuket Town this morning, but nothing since. Lights winds and partly cloudy skies today.
Wednesday May 11th
Another big burst of rain about 7pm last night, but today is fresh, cool and sunny, wind is less, waves on the beach smaller than the last 2 days. A really nice day.

Tuesday May 10th
Rain had stopped by yesterday morning, just a few light showers for the rest of the day. Today is completely different, cool but sunny with the wind less than the last 2 days. This is totally typical of this time of year. You get a bit of wet and a bit of sun. Overall more sun than rain, cooler weather and cheap hotels! A great time of year.

Monday May 9th
Rained all night and was still raining this morning, but stopped by 9am. The sky is much brighter. Wind is strong, waves big on Karon Beach. Latest satellite pic shows plenty of cloud to the west, which may come our way tomorrow. The updates on this page will be more regular now we are in the low season, as the weather changes daily. From November - April, there is little to report, just sun. Now things get more interesting (if you're a meteorologist).
Sunday May 8th
Indeed the weather has changed now. After well over 4 months with hardly any precipitation, rain started last night and it was still wet this morning. Sky is cloudy, temperature is cooler, air is clear, wind from the West. I can say that today marks the start of low season. The change has happened quite suddenly - a week ago, it was still hot and dry. Looking at the latest satellite image, looks like the rain will pass by the end of today. Indeed by early afternoon, the rain has stopped.....and then started again. Well, Phuket certainly needs some rain. The season has been very dry.

Saturday May 7th
It really looks like weather is changing now. The last couple of days have been warm and sunny, but there's been plenty of cloud and some rain. Not a lot, but you can feel the change in weather. Air is very clear. Yesterday, I could see right across to Phi Phi from Chalong - 45km away. The Green season is coming! Wind seems to be from the west, though not strong.
Wednesday May 4th
Still sunny and hot, but we have had some rain in the night, quite a big thunderstorm last night, and there was some rain in the morning a few days ago. It is getting towards the end of "the season" for sure.
