Phuket Weather - October 2005

Sunday October 30th

Saturday was pretty darn nice, warm, mostly sunny and a good day for doing the garden, then drinking a gallon of orange juice to slake your thirst. A few dark clouds in the afternoon came to nothing. Sunday has been bright without actually being sunny. Winds are light and seas are calm. A sure sign that winter is coming!

Friday October 28th

Today really is a sign of high season weather - warm, partly cloudy..we may get an evening shower, but a nice day. Sea is calm, winds are light and it's time to dive! You gotta get busy living or get busy dying...

Thursday October 27th

More unsettled weather the last few days, but not much rain except some in the evening and night. Mostly cloudy but one gets the feeling that the high season weather must be just around the corner. Light winds make for easy cruising on the dive boats.

Monday October 24th

There has been some really wet weather the last few days. Last Thursday was OK. Friday was wet all over Thailand. I drove from Phuket to Chumphon - 6 hours and rain all the way. Saturday was very very wet on the east coast, but dry and pretty sunny in Phuket. Sunday started wet but the afternoon was dry. Not sunny, but dry. Today started pretty decent and sunny but we had a big old rain shower mid afternoon. The winds are very light and have not quite settled on easterly yet. High season really starts once the light east winds start to blow. Seas are pretty calm.

Wednesday October 19th

Back to sun again! Bright sunny morning, this is typical season changing weather. You cannot predict what mother nature will do. Let's drink to pacha mama. Later on we had heavy rain at about 3pm. Rain. Sun. Rain. Sun. It will be intersting to check the water level in the main reservoir at Bang Wad after the rain this week. Won't be long before we have sun sun sun.

Tuesday October 18th

What did I say yesterday? Well, as last year there is a sting in the tail of the wet season. The morning was very very wet, maybe the hardest rain all year, and it lasted about 4 hours. Slowly dried up in the afternoon. Let's pray for a nice day tomorrow..

Monday October 17th

A sunny start, much warmer and calm seas off the beach. Yes, the high season is coming. Karon is looking great. There is a park and promenade almost complete now along the beachfront, very nice and so much cleaner and brighter than Patong. Karon is the place to be!

Sunday October 16th

Bit of a wet weekend! Friday was nice, water calm and the very first liveaboard of the season on Le Mahe reported Manta Rays being spotted - early in the season for them. Hurrah! Saturday was damp, not windy, just drizzly and damp. Sunday started in a similar vein, but brightened in the afternoon.

Thursday October 13th

A sunny day, il fait beau, el sol brilla. Clouds built up mid morning but came to nothing. The air is clear with light winds from the west. Wind is changing direction every day - have a look at the wind guru for information.

Wednesday October 12th

The day started with a bang. Big thunderstorm with plenty of thunder and lightening right over Kathu. Rain stopped by 7am and the sky cleared. The day was mostly sunny, a cool breeze blowing, temperature only 30°C! Where's my jacket.

Tuesday October 11th

A bright sunny day with cool light winds from the east. I would call this the first day of the high season. We can still expect some unsettled weather for a couple of weeks, but we are now entering the dry cool season. That's "cool" if you live here. If you are from Scotland you will be still think it's hot :)

Monday October 10th

A bright start to the day, sea totally calm. Skies darkened mid morning and we had a very heavy downpour for about 15 minutes before lunch. And then the skies cleared again. This is normal weather - 4 seasons in one day, without the snow obviously. See the photos below taken about 2 hours apart.

Sunday October 9th

Holidays this last week and no detailed updates, very sorry :( - I understand it was quite a wet week in Phuket , with just the 1st and 2nd being nice days. I was over in Chumphon (east coast of Thailand) and we had also very unsettled but hot weather. Saturday was very wet, one of the wetter days this year. A wet week is normal on both coasts at the tail end of the wet season - and it does look today that the weather is changing. Hardly a breath of wind, and could be that we see East winds this week. This means settled weather, calm seas and welcome to the high season!
