Phuket Weather - September 2005

Friday September 30th

Lack of reports this week due to holidays. The last couple of days have been really sunny, very nice days and great diving weather, but earlier in the week (Monday and Tuesday) there was some rain, apparently due to Phuket being in the outer edge of Typhoon Damrey, which was centered over Vietnam.

Sunday September 25th

Saturday was pretty decent too, the kind of day you just better be out diving or you'll regret it. But the night got wet and Sunday has also been cool, very windy and with showers around. At this time of year you never know what's coming!

Friday September 23rd

The last 2 days have been glorious. Sunny skies, a bit of cloud, warm but not too hot, light winds, great days for diving. But really we need more rain..

Wednesday September 21st

Sunny! As usual for Phuket, the rain does not last for long. Today started bright and sunny and warm. Satellite picture looks very clear. A good day for diving, which is good as we have students doing their very first dives at Koh Racha Yai today :)

Tuesday September 20th

Started brighter and around lunchtime was quite warm, with sunshine beginning to creep through. Then it got wet again with some thunder around mid afternoon. No wind. When it gets calm and wet, this is a sign of the changing seasons. Dry evening in Karon, though it had been raining hard in other parts of Phuket. Saw a rainbow, so there must have been some evening sun! The night was dry.

Monday September 19th

Much brighter today. There are clouds around and I guess there could be some rain, but it's quite a change from yesterday. What remains of the tropical storm Vicente is expected to dump plenty of rain on Northeast Thailand and Bangkok, but looks like Phuket is in the clear again. Late September does tend to be wetter than normal.

Sunday September 18th

Heavy rain and thunder on Friday night. Saturday was wet almost all day, the wettest day of the year...until today. Some heavy rain in places, the sky a uniform grey. Admit that soon you'll be drenched to the bone..the seasons they are a changing. The rain is due to tropical storm Vicente, which is actually centered in the South China Sea, around the coast of Vietnam, slowly moving inland - we are getting the outer bands of rain. Report in the Phuket Gazette.

Friday September 16th

Another bright day with clouds coming and going. Strong breeze in the morning, calmer afternoon. Nice enough day.

Thursday September 15th

Tuesday was another bright day, though not really sunny. Slightly cooler due to cloud cover. No sign of rain. Wednesday started grey and drizzly, much cooler, though what rain there was has gone by afternoon. Waves looked bigger in the sea. Today (Thursday) has started sunny and bright again.

Monday September 12th

Another clear night and sunny morning. The weather in the mornings is more like it should be in December - clear, slightly cooler, but it soon heats up. Temperature has been around 34°C for the last few days.

Sunday September 11th

Today's date will always be in people's minds as we remember the attacks in 2001. Here in Phuket, the sun is out to commemorate the victims, it's a real hot day. Friday and Saturday were also nice, but hot and humid. Light winds, small waves and yet again we wonder where the rainy season is. One has to assume there will be a period of bad weather sometime this month or early next month as there was the last 2 years.

Thursday September 8th

Much brighter this morning, sunny up until lunchtime with a light breeze blowing. Mr Blue Sky is back. It's stopped raining, everybody's in play.. I took a walk to the beach at lunchtime. Actually, it's really hot today.

Wednesday September 7th

Rather like Monday, rain overnight and woke to drizzle. Could see the top of "Radar Hill" poking through the clouds and by 8am the rain had stopped and sky was clearing. This drizzle is all very well, but the island needs some real rain!

Tuesday September 6th

SSDD. Warmer this morning, brighter and breezier. No sign of rain, but not exactly sunny either. Typical of Phuket weather at this time of year. It's the time of the season...

Monday September 5th

Woke to steady drizzle, keeping the air cool. Could have slept very late in the cool air (cool is a relative term, 25°C is cool here!). Rain stopped by 8am and the day has been sunny with a couple of very brief showers.

Sunday September 4th

Saturday was hot and partly cloudy. No rain. Sunday has started the same way, bright without actually being sunny. Some very light rain about midday. Then sunny again, then another shower mid afternoon. Cloudy evening.

Friday September 2nd

The day started wet all over the island. Grey and drizzling. No hard rain, just dark cloud everywhere. Less dark by lunchtime. Dry afternoon. Yes, looks like the seasons are changing. The rain tends to come more at the end of the summer, with September typically being the wettest month. Mind you, last September was quite dry until the last week.

Thursday September 1st

Yesterday was dry and pretty darn warm. Only rain was in the early evening. From the top of the hill looking over Chalong Bay you could see clear sky to the east and a big rain storm to the west heading inland. I raced it home, with a dark sky over my shoulder. Never rained at my house. Today has also started dry and sunny, with some clouds on the hills. No rain and stayed sunny all afternoon. Winds are still light.
