Prices | Description and Photos | Itinerary | Boat Plans | South Siam 4

Liveaboard diving in the Similan Islands with the South Siam 3 liveaboard. It is large and pretty comfortable, but still a basic, low budget boat - twin cabins with shared bathrooms, and sleeps maximum 28 guests, but the boat is well appointed and comfortable enough and will suit anyone needing a short liveaboard or looking for bargain Similan liveaboards. The sister ship South Siam 4 is running twice weekly 3 day/ 2 night trips to Similan and Richelieu Rock.

The South Siam 3 Liveaboard sleeps a maximum 28 guests* in twin sharing air conditioned cabins, with 6 shared bathrooms. There are also 2 double bed cabins. On the upper deck is a spacious shaded outdoor seating area where meals are served, and also an indoor air-conditioned lounge with TV and DVD. On the very top of the boat is a huge sundeck.

South Siam 3 also stays only in the Similan Islands, with some dives at Koh Bon (a good site for spotting Manta rays) on Wednesdays and Sundays. There is no diving at Richelieu Rock or Surin Islands. Snorkelers are taken by speedboat to the beach or shallow water, while the divers go on the liveaboard to the best dive sites.

Note that this is primarily a dive boat, and snorkelers on longer trips may find they visit the same spots several times - it's fine for a short 2 - 3 day trip. Also, while the dives are very well supervised and you always dive with a divemaster, snorkelers are often left alone without direct supervision - which suits some people and not others. At least you'll be in paradise!

All trips on the South Siam boats start early - pick up time in Phuket between 6 - 6:30am. Guests are transferred by minibus to the port of Thap Lamu, about 2 hours drive from Karon Beach, and there transfer to the speedboat for a quick 75 minute trip to the Similan Islands. On your final day you will make 3 dives in Similan, and expect to be back in Phuket by 7 - 8pm. Transfers also available from Khao Lak.

* If you want small groups this may not be the boat for you. Aside from the liveaboard guests, day trip customers also join the South Siam 3 during the day, meaning there can be a lot more than 28 guests on board for a few hours. Despite the numbers, we find the boat to be well run, but if you don't like crowds, this is not the right boat for you!
