Phuket Liveaboards
Similan Islands Liveaboards began operating from Phuket in the 1990s with diving tours heading to the main Similan Islands, with Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock further to the north. Over the years some boats changed their departure port to Khao Lak (120km north of Phuket), though most of these will still pick up all guests in Phuket. Some boats still have departures directly from Phuket, with trips departing from Chalong Bay or Patong Bay. Only a few of the liveaboards we offer that depart from Khao Lak don’t offer free transfers from Phuket. All boats shown below, whether they depart from Phuket or Khao Lak will offer free hotel transfers from just about anywhere in Phuket.
Phuket Liveaboard Diving Season
The Similan Diving season runs from around October 15th to May 15th. During this time of year you can expect mostly calm seas with winds from northeast. Now is also the time to dive at the remote southern dive sites of Hin Dang and Hin Muang. The water temperature is about 29 Degrees Celsius or 84 Fahrenheit year round. The visibility at the Similan Islands, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai, Richelieu Rock and the Surin Islands is about 15 – 30 meter or 48 – 98 feet. Phuket Liveaboard Pick Up Times
The pick up time from your hotel in Phuket or Khao Lak is for most liveaboards in the afternoon. Pick up from the Phuket airport is also possible. For the shorter liveaboard tours, like the Similan Overnight or 3 day and 2 night tour is the pick up time early in the morning.
Embarkation & Disembarkation
For liveaboard trips with late departures is dinner served on board before the boat is heading to the Similan Islands or Hin Daeng and Hin Muang. For the early morning departures you are getting a light breakfast at the Thap Lamu pier before taking off by speedboat to the liveaboard at the Similan Islands. Most Similan liveaboards departure these days from Thap Lamu, close to Khao Lak. Some liveaboards are leaving from Phuket, offering diving at Hin Daeng, Hin Munag and the Phi Phi Islands before cruising to the Similan Islands. During our green season from June to September we offer shorter trips to the Phi Phi Islands and Racha Islands. After your liveaboard trip you will be returned to your hotel in the afternoon.
