Dolphin Queen - Khao Lak Liveaboard

The Dolphin Queen Khao Lak based liveaboard will suit those wanting a lower price Similan Islands trip. If you're backpacking or on a tight budget, this could be the one for you. Despite being a low price, Dolphin Queen is professionally run with friendly staff, good food and of course great diving. There are several cabin types to choose from, all with aircon. Bathrooms are shared. It's a no frills boat that attracts a younger crowd looking for a cheap, fun trip. There are 4 night trips to the Similan Islands and Richelieu Rock through the season from October to May. Myanmar (Burma) liveaboard trips will also be running in 2018 and 2019 - a great chance to dive Mergui for less! All trips on Dolphin Queen start from Khao Lak.

Dolphin Queen Liveaboard Information

The main deck has 6 cabins – two double, one twin and three quad bunk, all air conditioned. There are also 2 larger cabins with double beds on the upper deck. In all, Dolphin Queen will take up to 22 guests.

The upper deck is where you can find the wheelhouse at the bow. At the stern is the eating area. Here you can help yourself with coffee, tea, water, electrolyte drinks and fruits which are always on the table. Breakfast is European style with toast, omelets, fried eggs, sausages, corn flakes, muesli and fruits. Lunch and Dinner are served buffet style with Thai food. You will find a TV so any videos made on the trip can be reviewed, or watch a movie. There is also a stereo so you can relax with some of your favourite music.

On the main deck at the stern is the dive platform which has plenty of room to store and prepare your gear. The Dolphin Queen has 3 boat crew, who are there to help you gear up and help with your entry and exit. There are 3 toilets with showers plus 2 showers on the dive deck. The galley is also located on the main deck. Your onboard food is prepared by the cook and her assistant who can cater for special needs.

Diving Equipment

Rental equipment is provided by the Similan Explorer liveaboard. Rental price is 500 Baht per day for BCD/regulator (250 Baht per item per day) and 250 Baht per day for a dive computer. No charge for fins/mask/wetsuit. After pick up from your accommodation in Khao Lak you will go to the liveaboard office in Khao Lak to try gear before departure.

Torches for night dives, no charge. 15 liter tanks 150 Baht per day.


Nitrox is available on board @ 200 Baht per 12 liter tank fill or 2,000 Baht for 4 night trips, or 3,600 Baht for 6 night trips.


PADI Advanced Open Water course is 8,000 Baht. PADI Enriched Air (Nitrox) course is 6,800 Baht.

Note the boat has a strict rule – if you are only Open Water certified you must do the Adventure Deep Dive section of the Advanced open Water course (1500 Baht) or you can choose to do the whole Advanced Open Water course.


Drinking water, coffee, tea, electrolyte drinks are included. Sodas are 30 – 40 Baht. Beers 70 – 80 Baht.
