Visitors from most Western Countries including Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand are granted a 30 day stay on arrival. There are many sunny days in the “low” season and showers can last a day or two, but normally little more than 2-3 hours. Latest recommendation is that you wait at least 18 hours before boarding a commercial flight if you have been making multiple dives or multiple days of diving. Read more here:

What is a liveaboard?

Many divers have only every done day trips or shore dives, so a liveaboard might seem daunting. 4 days on a boat? 4 dives per day? Sleeping on a boat? Yes! Liveaboard life is the best way to dive! Dive, eat, sleep! And you get to meet a bunch of other divers and spend time with them and get to the best dive sites that you cannot reach on day trips. More information – read What is Liveaboard Diving?

Where can I leave excess luggage when I go on a liveaboard?

We are happy to look after luggage or valuables for you, or you can ask at your hotel. You don’t need to carry too much on a liveaboard – cabins are not the same size as a hotel room! We are also happy to look after your diving equipment if you are travelling after your Phuket scuba diving trip. We can also arrange for equipment service.

What is included in the Liveaboard prices you quote?

The prices as quoted on the individual boat pages are not all inclusive. If you have any doubts as to what you are paying for, please ask! We assure you there are no hidden costs waiting for you. Note that some prices may change due to exchange rate fluctuations between the Baht and US dollar or Euro. You pay the price quoted when you book even if the operator later increases the trip price. The exception to this is fuel surcharges which may be added or increased due to the ridiculous price of oil these days!

Can I rent diving equipment?

All our listed prices for liveaboards and day trips are quoted not including rental equipment, since many divers have their own dive gear. A full set of well maintained diving equipment (including BCD, regulator, shorty wet suit, mask, snorkel and full foot fins) can be rented from our office on Karon Beach at 500 Baht per day. Please let us know your sizes, or preferably, come to our shop where you can try the equipment before your trip. Suunto dive computers can also be rented at 250 Baht/day.

What type of tanks and valves are on the boats?

All boats carry 12 litre aluminium tanks with yoke type K-valves. If you have a DIN regulator, check with us – some boats can provide a DIN tank, or you can bring an adaptor, or rent/buy one here. We can provide 15 liter tanks on request, normally a small extra fee. Nitrox is available on almost all boats, price varies from boat to boat.

What thickness wet suit should I bring?

The water temperature varies during the year from 26-30 Celsius. It’s not cold. Most divers here use a 3mm suit, and our rental suits are mostly 3mm shorties, but we do also have some long suits. For some divers a lycra body suit may be enough, while a 5mm suit is also fine – just don’t get too hot in the sun.

Can I charge torches/camera batteries/phones on board a liveaboard?

All boats have plenty of electric outlets (220V) for charging camera and torch batteries. Note that dive lights are included in most trip prices, or are rented on board for a small fee but you are welcome to bring your own. Some boats may have underwater cameras for rent.

What plugs and sockets are used in Thailand?

There is some variety in plugs used in Thailand. Most common are 2 pins, with either round or flat pins. Some plugs are 3 round pins. You’ll probably need an adaptor. You can find a photo and more info on our blog : Thai Plugs.

I am booking as a single diver – do I have to share a cabin?

The short answer is Yes. All prices are based on shared cabins. If you want a private cabin for one person, you must pay a higher price. The exact charge varies from boat to boat, but is often not much less than double price. You can ask us for details if you want a private cabin for yourself. Also, if you are a single female diver, there is not always a guarantee that we can find another single female to share a cabin with you. This varies from boat to boat.

Can a non diver go on a Thai diving liveaboard?

Non divers/snorkelers can go on any liveaboard, but remember that these are dive boats and so will not always visit the best snorkeling spots. Price for a non diver is usually the diver price less 10%, but some boats have lower rates for non divers. Snorkeling opportunities may be limited, some of the best dive sites are in deep water with no shallow reefs.

What is the Best Liveaboard in Thailand?

An almost impossible question! This depends on your budget, what boats suit your dates, what kind of cabin you want, what destination you want to dive … If you want the best boat to match your needs – ask Sunrise Divers! With our many years of experience diving here since 1999, we can help!

I’ve lost/forgotten my certification card – can I still dive?

If you have a PADI certification, we can look up your details on the PADI web site. All we need is your name and birthday. If you contact the dive center where you were certified, they can help you obtain a new card before you travel. If you are not PADI certified, please contact the training agency that you used to request proof of certification. If you come here and have no certification card and no logbook, we reserve the right to not allow you to dive.

The Thai language is not easy to learn, but people always appreciate your effort if you learn a few simple phrases. For diving courses, we can provide instructors to suit your language – English, German, French, Swedish and others.

Can I dive if I can’t swim?

If you have no health issues and are happy to be in the water, you can, in some places, book a 1 day “try dive” experience called Discover Scuba Diving. You don’t need to be a swimmer for this, but here at Sunrise we prefer not to book non-swimmers. If you want a certification, you will have to make a swim test to get your PADI Open Water licence.
